On a piece of paper, write a line from a poem that you love. Explore the poems at Poetry in Voice if you need to find one. Repeat this two more times.
If you’re in the classroom:
crumple them up and have a snowball fight. After the snowball fight, pick up three pieces of paper and write the lines out on a blank page (in any order). These lines will start the three stanzas of your poem about finding something surprising in an unusual place at home. When your poem is done, erase the three prompt-lines.
Next, roll your three pieces of paper up and tuck them in nooks and crannies in your home. After 24 hours, retrieve the tucked away papers, and write a poem of three stanzas each one ending with the three lines (in any order). Write a poem about either a snowball fight between friends and what’s discovered under the snow or about an object that rolls through the different worlds created in the lines of poetry. When your poem is done, erase the three prompt-lines.
